What's New!
PSM Students are interning at various corporations this summer and fall:
Gisselle Cornejo – Nobel Energy, Joe Mils – Schlumberger, Liang Ge – Baker Hughes, Ting Hong – Teledrill, Inc., Alex Wagner – City of Houston, Scott Rauschhuber – UH, Carol Liu – GIS, Vishwa Nellore – Rice Nano-Physics, Bret Halbe – Nanoridge, Sona Joseph – Rice MEMS, Dana Akilbekova – Kazakhstan government office, Jeff Rudnik - Chevron.
Visit with Vishwa Nellore in the Physics lab in the Space Science building:
After his internship with the City of Houston, Alex Wagner secured an academic internship at Rice conducting research for an air pollution study of Houston this fall under Dr. Bedient and Dr. Raun.

The Program Director, Dagmar Beck, has been visiting with interns and their internship providers to establish an on-going dialogue between the university and the corporation, and to inform the corporation about the PSM program and the internship requirements. So far, luncheons were held with Nobel Energy, Teledrill, Inc., Nanoridge, and Chevron.
Jeff Rudnik, EADM student is interning with Chevron's Environmental Department under guidance of Dr. Roland Borey.

Chris Ochterbeck is interning with Chevron's Deep Water G&G Ops Team

Bret Halbe, NP student, is working for Nanoridge, an advanced nanomaterials
manufacturer utilizing leading-edge technology to commercialize the
production of intermediate nanomaterials based carbon nanotubes and
polymer matrices.

Ting Hong, SG student, was accepted as intern at Teledrill, Inc., a company that provides the drilling industry with a Rate of Penetration
(ROP) enhancement tool/service that both triples the drilling rate and
also provides Measurement While Drilling (MWD) with Gamma Ray
information in real time. Teledrill also has the only retrievable
downhole generator and can use rechargeable batteries in its 10 foot
tool.

Thank you to all our internship providers for 2009!

Congratulations!!
RICE PSM PREVIEW DAYS:
This year's Rice PSM Preview Days were again well attended, the students got a thorough introduction to the Professional Science Master's Program at Rice, participated in a campus tour, toured the Nano lab with John Marsh, Operations Director of the Smalley Institute, learned about Environmental projects at Rice with Dr. Walter Chapman, and toured the business school. They were provided with a glimpse "outside the hedges" of the campus and visited the downtown theater district including a Wortham Center performance and a dinner.
The 2009 PSM CORPORATE RECEPTION took place on February 18th at the Student Center's Farnsworth Pavilion. Nearly 100 corporate representatives attended our annual event and we received high interest in our program and our students. Many companies are ready to get more involved with the university and we are establishing new connections and building in-roads with a variety of companies in the Houston and surrounding areas.
Companies seeking students to help with projects this summer/fall, please contact us at profms@rice.edu. Information on our students can be found under the link "About our Students" - please contact us if you like to meet the students for an interview!
The ConocoPhillips Fellowship Awards was given to Professional Master’s student Liang Ge in Subsurface Geoscience. Congratulations! Thank you to ConocoPhillips for their continued support of our program and our students
