 Chris Campbell
|
Mr. Campbell received his bachelor of science degree in Economics from Texas A&M in 2008. His international background being raised in Uruguay, speaking Spanish and Portuguese, and proceeding to receive his bachelor’s degree from an American university provides him with a unique international perspective to apply to his graduate studies at Rice University. Chris’ interest has been on management and development of energy resources in an environmentally sustainable manner. He plans on focusing on Sustainable Development in his studies at Rice University. |
Brian Crimmins
|
Mr. Crimmins graduated from Michigan State University with a bachelor of science in Urban and Regional Planning in 2006. The interdisciplinary design of the EADM degree, in combination with the emphasis on practical professional experience, provided an opportunity to build on his diverse background, and his extensive work experience in the environmental and urban planning realm. At present, Brian is working as a senior planner at the City of Houston’s Planning & Development Department where he coordinates the environment policy and planning initiative serving as the Environmental liaison to the Mayor’s Office of Environmental Planning. Brian’s focus during his graduate studies will be on management and policy. |
Shilpi Desai
|
Ms. Desai received her bachelor of science degree in Biology from Texas A&M in 2006. Since graduation she has been working for Fluor Corporation’s Health, Safety and Environmental department as a HSE Specialist. This position has piqued her interest in environmental procedures and standards and has inspired her to pursue graduate studies at Rice. By concentrating on environmental management and policy, Shilpi hopes to be able to influence environmental regulations of private companies and work towards more corporate responsibility toward the environment. |
Reshmy Mohanan
|
Ms. Mohanan graduated from the Peoples Education Society, Institute of Technology in Bangladore, India with a bachelor of engineering in Biotechnology in 2009. Reshmy not only participated in many environmental field trips, but also was active as a volunteer organizing clean-up campaigns and awareness programs throughout her academic life. These activities spurred her interest in enrolling in the EADM track at Rice University to acquire advanced training to be able to help her country to better plan and monitor industry and urban development. Her study focus will be on management and policy. |
Ester Rios Rivera |
Ms. Rios Rivera received her bachelor of science degree in Civil Engineering from Universidad de las Americas Puebla in Puebla, Mexico in 2007. At her university, Esther participated in a thesis project related to water contamination, conducting abundant laboratory research and data evaluation. Esther chose the Rice PSM program to expand her background in civil engineering towards the environmental field with the goal to work in the environmental consulting business after graduation. |
 Ying Liu
|
Ms. Liu received her bachelor of science degree in Biochemistry in 2007 from Sun Yat-sen University in China. She was accepted to the Rice PhD Biochemistry department, however, decided that research was not the career path she wanted to continue to pursue. She was attracted to our program by the interdisciplinary curriculum and the exposure to management and communication training. Her goal is to further increase her knowledge in advanced science and gain experience in business and management. She focused on sustainable development. Carol is interning at GIS Environmental in Houston, Texas.

 Scott Rauschhuber
|
Mr. Rauschhuber graduated from University of the Incarnate Word in San Antonio, TX with a B.S. in Biology in 2007. He studied hydrology as a research project at his university, and did an internship with a small oil company during his undergrad degree. He has an interest in management and policy and his focus is also on sustainable development. Scott is interning at University of Houston.

 Jeffrey Rudnik
|
Mr. Rudnik graduated from Cornell University with a B.S. in Biological and Environmental Engineering in 2008. As part of Cornell’s Engineering Co-op program he participated in an internship with Woodard & Curran, an Environmental Engineering and Consulting firm. This work experience convinced him that he was pursuing the right career path and also showed him that a master’s degree was essential to reach his goals. Jeff's focus is on sustainability. He secured an internship with Chevron's Environmental Department.

 Alexander Wagner
|
Mr. Wagner received his degree in Geography and Humanities from the University of Texas in Austin, TX in 2006. He is interested in studying how global climate change and the resulting shifting economies will affect future development strategies and environmental policy. Our program offers him the opportunity to improve his skills in quantitative analysis of environmental issues which will help him to better deal with environmental problems, and allow him to participate in developing better environmental policies for the future. Alex interned with the City of Houston, Environmental Department.

 Joseph Olear
|
Mr. Olear graduated from the University of Ibadan, Nigeria with a B.S. in Chemistry in 1983, and received an MBA from the University of Benin in 1993. He was employed with Guinness PIC until 1999, qualifying himself as an experienced laboratory analyst, quality control manager and their "World Class Program" facilitator and acquiring 15 years of experience with a multinational company. Upon his arrival in the U.S., Mr. Olear accepted a position with the Harris County Appraisal district as property appraiser and district representative. Mr. Olear's goal is to advance his career.

 Jennifer Andjelich
|
Ms. Andjelich received a B.S. degree in Communication Studies and a B.A. in Geograpny from the University of Texas in 2006. She is currently employed with ExxonMobil Corporation as a Geoscience Support Technician. Her goal is to use the knoweldge and experience gained in this program to pursue a change of career in environmental consulting, regulation, or a related field within her company.

 Nada Ahmed
|
Ms. Ahmed graduated from University of Richmond with a degree in French and Chemistry in 2006. Growing up in Pakistan, she received a scholarship for the United World College in Hong Kong, studied in France and finally proceeded to seek her Bachelor’s degree in the U.S. Nada’s interest in raising the environmental consciousness of students around her, encouraged her to become V.P. for the Sierra Club at her university. Her strong desire to learn more about the protection and restoration of our environment, and the cross-disciplinary approach of the EADM track led her to Rice. Nada interned with Schlumberger in Paris and accepted employment from GIS Environmental in Houston, Texas.

 Summer Eidson
|
Ms. Eidson received a bachelor of science degree in Chemistry from Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas in 2000. Since graduation, Summer has worked as an environmental professional at GeoSyntec Consultants, Inc. conducting environmental site assessments and serving as the Env. Health and Safety Coordinator. Summer will be attending the EADM program on a part-time basis while continuing her position with GeoSyntec. The unique coursework offered by the EADM program will allow her to deepen her science and analytical knowledge, and at the same time add business and management skills to enhance her capabilities to manage the technical and business aspects of environmental projects.

 Rachelle Petrovic
|
Ms. Petrovic attended Oberlin College in Ohio for undergraduate studies and completed her bachelor degree in Chemistry at Rice University in 2003. Her desire to work in research led her to a research assistant position with Lynntech, Inc in College Station, Texas, a company specializing in commercialization of new technologies. Since 2004 she has been working as a research chemist for Carbon Nanotechnologies, Inc in Houston focusing on developing carbon nanotubes as an electrode for fuel cells. As a member of the Seneca Nation of Indians of the Iroquois Tribe and growing up on the Cattaraugus Indian Reservation, she has a special interest in sustainability with the goal to find a position where she will research solutions for real applications in sustainable development and environmental science.
Rachelle interning with ElementMarkets in Houston and was hired by the company. Last year, Rachelle took time off from work to spend more time with her family.

 Takumi Shiraishi
|
Mr. Shiraishi earned a bachelor degree in Environmental Science from the University of Shiga Prefecture, Japan in 2000, and a master’s degree in International Environmental Policy from the Monterey Institute of International Studies in California in 2002. Since graduation he has been working for Perry Johnson Registrars, Inc. assisting the sales, administration, and auditing departments in the Asia Pacific Division of the company. He focused on engineering and chemistry coursework with the goal to work as an environmental consultant after graduation from the EADM program.
Takumi worked for Futaba Industrial Company in Chicago during his internship. After graduation, Takumi returned to Japan to work for Yazaki Corporation in the Environmental Affairs division.

 Myriam McChargue
|
Myriam attended Louisiana State University and graduated in 2003 with a B.S. in Biological Sciences. Since then she worked at LSU as a research associate and co-authored a paper on examining flash oxygen yield changes during chloride depletion and reconstitution. In her studies at Rice, Myriam focused on environmental sustainability with the goal to work for a conservation oriented organization or an environmental consulting company. She completed her internship with ERM and accepted employment with CDM Environmental Consulting following graduation.

 Daniel Mills
|
Danny Mills received his B.A. in Biology from Trinity University in 2005. He gained research experience while interning with the National Park Service and working for the U.S. Forest Service. Danny sought to integrate his background in biology and ecology with management and communication skills to be able to either work in environmental consulting or policy making.
Danny completed his internship with Golden Associates in Houston and accepted a position with the HOK Architectural and Engineering firm in Houston after graduation.

 Matt Sleazak
|
Matt Slezak began his studies as an engineering student at Ohio State University, and then finished his B.S. of Science Liberal Arts/Mathematics at Excelsior College in 2004. Over the last 10 years, Matt has gained extensive work experience, including starting a company, stock trading, hardware and software management consulting, working as a network operations technician and a TEKsystems consultant. He interned with Cypress Energy trading and worked for IVG Green as a Clean Fuels Analyst until December 2007 when he accepted a position with BP as power risk analyst.

 Varun Anand

Mr. Anand received his Bachelor of Technology (B. Tech) in Chemical Engineering in May 2004 at Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University in Delhi, India.He has gained practical work experience through employment at a nitric acid/ammonia/sewage treatment plant and The Energy and Resources Institute in India. He was also involved in developing a process for producing single walled carbon nanotubes. His goal was to start his own environmental consultancy firm, after his graduation in 2006 he started employment with Trinity Consultants in Houston, Texas.

 Ellice Lin

Ms. Lin graduated from University of California in Irvine with a Bachelor of Science in Biology in 2003. She was interested in environmental policy and laws, and seeking to increase her skills in effective water/air management, natural resource and environmental management, and preservation. After her graduation in 2006 she accepted a short-term position with Tetra Tech in California as an Air Quality Specialist, and then was hired by Jorgensen Environmental.

 Sarah Mason
|
Ms. Mason earned her Bachelor of Arts in Biological Sciences at Clemson University, South Carolina in 2003. Sarah gained practical work experience by working throughout her undergraduate years. She developed an interest for environmental protection during her studies at Clemson. She seeked involvement with industries in developing more sustainable practices in production and development. Her long-term goal is to become active in government to assure that sustainable practices become law. She has accepted an Environmental Analyst position with the Mayor's Office of the City of Houston.

 Avanti Tamhane
|
Ms. Tamhane received her Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering in 2004 at Rice University in 2004. During her two internships with BP she gained practical work experience enhancing her engineering, analyzing and communication skills. She was interested in learning more about the decision making processes behind major environmental issues. Avanti accepted employment with URS in Houston, Texas and was promoted to work in their San Francisco office in 2008.

 Iain Cowie
|
Mr. Cowie earned a bachelor’s degree in electrical/electronic engineering in 1989 at Aberdeen University in Scotland. For the past twelve years he has worked as an acquisition manager and field engineer for READ Well Services, an oil field service company specializing in cased hole logging and borehole seismic logging services. He intended to focus his career toward energy and the environment. He graduated in 2005 and worked with Paulsson Geophysical Services in California, until accepting a position with Ziebel Geosciences Services, also in California.

 Andrea Crumpacker
|
Ms. Crumpacker graduated from Truman State University in 1999 with a B.S. in Biology. She has field work experience collecting data related to fishery management. She intended to focus on advanced computation and was most interested in how different aspects of statistics may be used to improve resource management. She is now employed as an Environmental Statistician for Weston Solutions in California.

 Christy Mak

Ms. Mak received her Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science in 1999 from the School of Environmental Science & Engineering at Sun Yat-sen University. In addition to working for the Environmental Protection Bureau in Guangzhou, China, she has been actively involved in the Green Youth Organization supported by the Guangzhou Municipal Environmental Bureau and the School of Earth and Environmental Science at Sun Yat-sen University. Her goal was to work for the Chinese government in the field of environmental protection. After graduation, she accepted a position with Sage Environmental in Houston, Texas |
 Christine Robichaud

Ms. Robichaud graduated in 2000 from Texas A& M University with a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering. After graduation she worked as a business consulted for Arthur Andersen in the energy industry, identifying and implementing supply chain process improvements. At Rice she hopes to gain an interdisciplinary view of the policies, economics, and technological challenges involved with environmental protection, with the goal of building a business case for sustainable development. Christine graduated from the PSM program in May 2005 and is now pursuing a PhD.

 Natalie Irwin
|
Natalie Irwin graduated from UC-Berkeley in 2000 with a BS in Integrative Biology with an emphasis in plant ecology. She has had an interest in the environmental sciences since high school when she was involved in a program that restored degraded lands to a natural state. After graduating from UC-Berkeley, Natalie worked in the biotechnology industry. She graduated in Spring 2004 and is now working for EIP Water Resources Group in California which recently merged with PBS&J.

 Bill Schleizer
|
Mr. Schleizer graduated magna cum laude from Tulane University in 2000 with a B.S. in Ecology, Evolution & Organismal Biology and Environmental Studies. The interdisciplinary and intrinsically complex nature of environmental issues has sparked his interest over the past decade. Prior to entering the Professional Master's Program, he worked as an environmental consultant tackling compliance issues for many industries ranging from wastewater treatment to petrochemical transmission. Current interests include the interactions of government, industry, and the public in the creation of effective environmental policy; and the development of sustainable business models. Following his interest in aiding corporations in the development of sustainable business practices, after his graduation in 2004 he accepted a full-time position with the Delta Institute in Chicago. Bill was promoted to Director of the institute in 2009.

 Douglas Thompson
|
Mr. Thompson earned his bachelor’s degree in geology in 1976 from Western Michigan University. He continued his education at Pennsylvania University where he earned a M.S. in Mineral Economics in 1980. Mr. Thompson’s professional life as a geologist focused on hydrology studies, geotechnical analysis, and coal mining. He conducted economic evaluations and financial modeling for mining and explorations projects at Exxon for 11 years before starting his own management consulting firm in Houston in 1991. He has provided strategic planning and organizational design to the engineering and architectural community. He has also given presentations and speeches at various national conferences on business and ethics. His goal was to enhance his consulting practice by working directly with corporate clients in the development of sustainability strategies. After graduation, Doug relocated his consulting business to Washington D.C.

Matt Hotze

Mr. Hotze received his Bachelor of Science in Chemistry and Business from the University of Notre Dame in 2003. He gained work experience with several consulting companies during semester breaks. During his second semester of the PSM program, Matt became interested in research and decided to pursue a PhD.
